Celebrating The Opening Of Our Fresh Food Market Hall

23 Oct 2017

Thanks to all of you, our customers, who were a part of our Your Market Festival between 19 - 22 October, which was four days of family fun to celebrate the opening of the new Fresh Food Market Hall and the first stage of our $460 million transformation.

We kicked off in style with a traditional lion dance bringing good luck and good fortune, and that was just a start of the fun. Celebrity chefs sizzled with cooking demonstrations and recipes that looked and tasted spectacular! Our dedicated picnic zone for kids came alive with Crayola colouring activities and a fun, interactive workshops with Kitchen Ninja, Andy Trieu.

Centre Manager, Richard Devlin, said, “The Glen is a real community and we’re excited to welcome people to our new fresh food precinct, which was inspired by our customers, both in terms of design and retailers.”

“With Australia’s three leading supermarkets, Aldi, a brand new Woolworths and Coles; and a host of new stores offering everything from fresh fish, to rare Asian ingredients, we are proud to have delivered a real destination for food enthusiasts. Our shoppers are passionate about cooking and experimenting with new foods and we believe our selection and variety makes us the number one food destination for the South East. It was great to see so many customers exploring our new market hall, and our retailers, both new and returning, so excited to share their passion for food.”

Michelle Lukman

Your Market Kitchen

We loved hosting some of Australia’s top chefs who showcased their famous and favourite recipes to crowds of onlookers.

Michelle Lukman, who rose to fame on MasterChef, wowed the crowd with her intricate ‘Golden Ball’ recipe and some of her favourite dinner recipes.

Adam D’Sylva, from Melbourne favourites Coda and Tonka, displayed his culinary expertise with recipes that left no question as to why he is one of our most iconic chefs. With his dishes made entirely of fresh food and ingredients purchased in our new Fresh Food Market Hall, Adam’s audience needed no more reasons to check out the new produce we have on offer.

The Coles Kitchen

Another former MasterChef contestant, Dani Venn, aka “The Wholehearted Cook”, showcased her approach to healthy eating and some of her favourite family recipes.  Proudly presented by Coles, Dani’s visit inspired us to get in the kitchen and replicate her delicious dishes at home.

Food as art exhibition

Food As Art Exhibition

Taking food talent to another level, you may have spotted our food artist, Daniele Baresi’s  incredibly intricate carved designs in everything from melons to avocados. Daniele’s ‘food as art’ exhibition took everyday fruit and vegetables and turned them into sculptures too beautiful to eat.

The Produce Butchers

Tomatoes were diced, coriander was chopped and carrots were grated as our Produce Butchers prepared your freshly purchased fruit, vegetables and herbs.  Bringing a bit of extra convenience to you, our Produce Butchers literally cut down the time needed for meal prep at home.

Chandon Bubble Bar

Chandon Bubbles Bar

It was fabulous to see so many customers enjoy the flowing bubbles at our Chandon Bubbles Bar. Customers said “cheers” to the opening of our Fresh Food Market Hall with a complimentary glass of bubbles or Chandon S, courtesy of The Glen and Chandon, Australia’s favourite sparkling.

Kitchen Ninja

The Picnic Spot with special guest, the Kitchen Ninja

Our Picnic Spot, was a colourful and interactive space for kids with Crayola colouring stations and a packed program across our four-day festival.

Special guest Andy Trieu, the Kitchen Ninja from SBS’ Kitchen Whiz, met hundreds of kids in our weekend workshops teaching young foodies simple and tasty recipes like fruit kebabs. With all ingredients sourced from our new Fresh Food Market Hall, our mini chefs can now recreate these recipes at home, and share their new skills with family and friends.

For the more sweet-toothed young ones and those young at heart, a gourmet, all-natural, fairy floss stand by Spun added to the festival fun, while our roving balloon artist took inspiration from the food theme of the weekend and created special balloon sculptures for lucky junior customers to take home.

Market Hall

We hope that everyone who visited The Glen for Your Market Festival was inspired by our new fresh food offering. We’re excited to have the first stage of our transformation complete and can’t wait to bring you the next phase of development and even more specialty retailers later this year.

On behalf of everyone at The Glen, we look forward to seeing you soon.
