Meet The Artist: Atong Atem
Explore ways in which contemporary black African artists like Atong Atem are using fashion, photography and portraiture to redefine personal and cultural identity. A taste of Atem’s current exhibition at the MGA, Fashioning black identity: Africa and the African diaspora is currently on display at The Glen’s MGA Gallery Space. The exhibition utilises the language of clothing, the body and time to explore and unpack perceptions of race and being.
Guests will have the opportunity to explore Atem’s work first-hand, and join the discussion between Atem and Dr Gareth Syvret, MGA Associate Curator. They will discuss the inspiration behind her series as part of the free Q&A event, which will be supported by complimentary refreshments and nibbles.
