David Jones Leads the Way in Sustainable Beauty with the Beauty Cycle Program David Jones is making significant strides in environmental sustainability through its enthusiastic participation in the innovative Beauty Cycle program. This initiative empowers both customers and staff to responsibly dispose of their used beauty product packaging, diverting thousands of tons of waste from landfills and championing a circular economy for the beauty industry.

What is the Beauty Cycle Program? The Beauty Cycle program is a nationwide recycling initiative designed specifically for beauty product packaging, a category often challenging to recycle through conventional sustainability programs. Through dedicated collection boxes located in participating stores, the program provides a convenient and accessible way for consumers to give their empty beauty containers a second life. The collected materials are then processed and reused, reducing the demand for virgin resources and minimising environmental impact.

A Resounding Success: Tangible Environmental Impact David Jones’ commitment to the Beauty Cycle program has yielded impressive results. Since Financial Year 2025, the company has successfully diverted over 4,500 tons of waste from landfills. This monumental effort has also saved more than 14,200 beauty containers from ending up as waste, demonstrating the significant collective impact of individual recycling efforts. To put this into perspective, 4,500 tons of waste is equivalent to the amount of waste generated by approximately 3,200 one-way flights from Melbourne to Sydney! All 45 David Jones stores have implemented the Beauty Cycle initiative. This widespread adoption is showcasing a strong internal commitment to sustainability. The program continues to grow, with an increasing variety and volume of beauty products being recycled every single day.

What Can and Cannot Be Recycled? To ensure the effectiveness of the program and proper material processing, it's important to understand what can and cannot be recycled through Beauty Cycle. Eligible Products for Recycling:

  • Empty glass bottles, jars, and pots Caps and tubes (from lotions, creams, etc.)
  • Empty foundation bottles Compacts (from powder, blush, etc.)
  • Lipsticks and lip gloss containers
  • Eyeshadow palettes Mascara tubes Eye and brow liners Empty perfume bottles

Items That Cannot Be Recycled:

David Jones' dedication to the Beauty Cycle program serves as a shining example of how businesses can champion environmental responsibility.
