Setting the scene with a festive tablescape
You don't need to overdo it when it comes to creating a stunning space for your festive feast. Start by having a colour scheme or theme in mind, as this will help keep everything cohesive. A classic Christmas look is always a great option, with red and green festive accents against white plates and a simple linen tablecloth. From there, add fun elements like sprigs of pine or pinecones, and a dash of subtle sparkle with tinsel.
For a modern twist, be inspired by Hannah’s Australian flora table, incorporating native florals into her serving ware and table décor too. You can even add a traditional festive touch by hanging Christmas tree decorations from the floral branches, it’s an easy way to incorporate a touch of holiday spirit to your tablescape without overwhelming the space. Find decorations like these at Adairs, Bed Bath N' Table, TK Maxx, Target, David Jones and fresh florals at Deep Blue Florist.

Delicious and shareable nibbles
Spend less time in the kitchen and more time with your guests by choosing dishes that are easy to prepare and great for sharing. Go for a variety of different yet delicious nibbles that everyone can graze on throughout the event. Think dishes like a simple cheese board or a bowl of ripe tomatoes drizzled with olive oil topped with a fresh burrata, a platter of dips with toasted bread and crackers, or a selection of cured meats and warmed olives. For main dishes, choose meals you can cook or prepare in advance, such as fresh seafood, roast chicken, or ham, and serve them alongside fresh salads or roasted veggies.
To make this celebration extra special, don't forget the sweet treats. Delight your guests with a delicate pavlova topped with fresh fruits and plenty of cream or a classic layered trifle. For the chocolate lovers, rocky road or coconut truffles are always a well-loved option. You can find ingredients at Coles, Woolworths, ALDI, The Glen Asian Grocer, Colonial Fresh, Foodle and more!
After some recipe inspiration? Why not try serving up a Fennel, Apple & Dill Salad or a Roasted Pumpkin with Massaman Curry Sauce.
Creating a festive atmosphere
Crafting a festive atmosphere ties together all the elements of the gathering, from the décor to the dishes being served, to the people you celebrate with. Add some final finishing touches like strung up Christmas lights or softly lit lamps and candles around where you will be hosting your gathering in to create a welcoming space. Don’t forget to amplify the holiday mood with a low-volume Christmas playlist featuring all the classic carols and light instrumentals.
Now that you have everything ready to go, it’s all about celebrating a Christmas spent merry surrounded by your friends.
